Absa Prem Wrap Up: Pressure rises in penultimate week

It was raining goals in the Absa Premiership this evening with teams looking to ease pressure before the final league game.

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns came in to Matchday 29 even on 53 points with Chiefs sitting on top with goal difference +20 goals and Sundowns on second with +15.

Khama Billiat scored inside the first ten minutes of the first half to give Amakhosi the lead in a dramatic game against Chippa United which produced two red cards for the Chilli boys.

Chiefs failed to capitalise on advantage and the game finished 1-0 which saw them remain on top of the table.

Mamelodi Sundowns thumped bottom of the log Polokwane City 3-0 with Anele Ngcongca and Themba Zwane scoring late in the first half, Keletso Makgalwa netted the 3rd late in the second half to reduce the goals needed to catch log leaders Kaizer Chiefs to 4.

Sundowns’ win means Polokwane City need to win their last Absa Premiership match and Hope Chiefs need to beat Baroka to move to the 16th which could give them a lifeline as they will compete in the promotional playoffs.

Both Chiefs and Sundowns will do battle against Limpopo outfits Black Leopards and Baroka FC on the final match day which will decide the champions.
