Arsenal have reportedly made plans to sign Atletico Madrid and Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey in the summer transfer window.
Partey, 26, has a release clause of around £45million, which will make him a target for many top clubs. According to a source at Wanda Metropolitano, there is “interest from an English club”.
For Arsenal, manager Mikel Arteta has said that the club are in need of a central midfielder.
The Athletic also claimed that Partey was desperate for a move to Arsenal last summer, when Unai Emery was in charge.
Partey has impressed for Atletico Madrid all season and was incredible in their 2-1 UEFA Champions League win over Liverpool. The Ghanaian shone defensively against Liverpool’s numerous attacks over 120 minutes.
He registered 12 recoveries in total. His impressive ability in one-on-one situations was also on full display – finishing the game with a joint-highest five tackles.
