Reports coming out from Egypt suggest that Al Ahly will have to join Zamalek in the search for a new coach after the impending departure of their Swiss head coach Rene Weiler.
Weiler won the Egyptian Premier League in spectacular fashion, only losing one game.
On the continental front, Weiler led the Red Devils to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League before the coronavirus outbreak.
Although Weiler has not made his desire to leave official to the club yet, AFHQ understands from Egyptian sources that the tactician will leave the club after the conclusion of the ongoing CAFCL.
The 47-year-old previously managed the likes of Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht and Swiss side FC Luzern, but the Swissman has reached new levels of success in Egypt with a win rate of over 75% since joining Al Ahly one year ago.
Since the stoppage of the league Weiler has voiced concerns over staying in Egypt during the pandemic, causing a rift between the manager and the club.
He requested a leave of absence after their cup match on September 30 to return to Switzerland for a few days, leaving Al Ahly’s management concerned over the future of their coach.
