Kaizer Chiefs have opened talks with former head coach Stuart Baxter for a shock return to the club after sacking Ernst Middendorp on Wednesday.
Chiefs took the decision to part ways with the German mentor after their disastrous end to the 2019/20 season as they lost the title on the final day to Mamelodi Sundowns.
AFHQ have been informed that Gavin Hunt and Stuart Baxter have both hold opening talks with manager Bobby Motaung over succeeding Middendorp – with the former Bafana Bafana boss the favourite despite his current role with Odisha in India.
“Chiefs have reached out to Baxter to take over for the 2020/21 season as his record during his previous is held in high regard with the club,” the source revealed.
“He only recently joined the team in India but they are confident that they can lure him back to the Village and it looks like Gavin Hunt might be moving elsewhere.”
The 67-year-old won four major titles in his first stint including two league titles between 2012 and 2015 before moving on to the Turkish Super Lig Gençlerbirliği.
