African football fans were left shocked on Sunday when pictures surfaced of legendary Congolese tactician Florent Ibenge meeting with Yanga SC executives.
It was believed that the Tanzanian side were looking to hire Ibenge as their head coach, but AFHQ can exclusively reveal that this is not the case.
The Yanga executives were meeting with Ibenge in Kinshasa to discuss a potential transfer of four AS Vita players to Yanga.
According to the source, who is high up in the Yanga ranks, it is the norm for CECAFA clubs to meet with each other – clearing up confusion over the Ibenge situation.
Yanga are still in the hunt for a new coach after Belgian Luc Eymael was sacked for making racist remarks, however.
The source confirmed to us that a deal to bring former Burundi youth national team coach Cedric Kaze to Yanga is “90% done.”
Kaze was named the best coach in East and Central Africa in 2012.
He was experience abroad as well, having worked as an analyst for the 2009 U-21 World Cup champion German National squad. He covered players like Ozil, Kroos, Khedira, Neuer and Hummels.
