Ze Luis has caught the attention of a few potential suitors in Europe and in Asia recently, however, it seems as though Besiktas have become the front runners to acquire the Cape Verde international’s services.
However, the centre forward’s agent José Fouto said that although contact between the Porto and the Turkish giants has been made, the former Spartak Moscow star seems set to stay at the Estádio do Dragão for the full length of his three-year contract.
“There was a brief dialogue without starting serious negotiations and they (Besiktas) showed an interest in knowing the situation and the state of Zé Luís at FC Porto, as the opinion of FC Porto and I told them,” he told Turkish radio station Radyo Spor.
“It was a first contact, we really appreciate that because Besiktas are a great club in Turkey and in Europe, but it̵’s not an easy situation because FC Porto and Zé Luís believe that a significant investment was made with them relatively recently three years ago the club and the parties are happy.
“I thank Besiktas for their interest, there was a brief dialogue, but there were no serious negotiations.
“The mentality of Zé Luís is to fulfill his contract with FC Porto. He has a good contract. He is in a club that has won the league and the cup. He will play in the Champions League where he has both are very much appreciated by the club as well as by his teammates,” he added.
At the age of 29, the sizable forward has had a steady season in Portugal, finding the back of the net 10 times and assisting twice, as he walked away with a Primeira Liga winners’ medal for the first time in his career.
Landing one African on loan in Bernard Mensah, the 13-time Turkish Super Lig champions will hope to add more firepower upfront, should talks between the clubs advance before the season starts in September.
