Nigerian FA waiting for FIFA to approve Ademola Lookman switch

Ademola Lookman has started the process of switching allegiance from England to Nigeria.

Nigerian National Team Technical Assistant Tunde Adelakun has confirmed that Ademola Lookman has started the process of switching allegiance from England to Nigeria.

Adelakun said the RB Leipzig forward has already committed his international future to Nigeria.

Lookman was part of the England U20 that won the U20 World Youth Championship two years ago. He was viewed as one of the most promising talents in English football but has struggled for game time in recent times.

“It’s a positive step forward when made his commitment to Nigeria and we are just waiting for a Fifa clearance.” Adelakun said.

“Once the go-ahead is sorted, it will be up to coach Gernot Rohr to decide if his club performance would earn him a call up.”

“He’s one of three former England youth players we’ve filed for but they are all aware of the caveat,” Adelakun added.

“All the players were told that they can only earn a place in the squad by playing regular club football.”

Regardless of his playing struggles, he would be a great addition to the Nigerian National Team.
