Moroccan Champions: Raja Casablanca win Botola

After an incredibly dramatic final day of the 2019/20 Moroccan Botola Pro season, Raja Casablanca have been crowned champions of the Moroccan top flight for the 12th time!

Raja entered the final day with a one-point lead over their Casablanca rivals Wydad. RS Berkane were not far behind in third place, three points behind Raja Casablanca.

Raja hosted FAR Rabat, while Wydad played away at FUS. RS Berkane played away at Olympique Safi.

All matches began at the same time to create an exciting finish line for the season.

Interestingly enough, at half time, RS Berkane were leading the table on goal difference!

Not only was the final day a nail-biter, but the league was still up in the air to the last minute!

Wydad completed their comeback through a Zouheri El Moutaraji goal in the 87th minute. At the time, they were top of the table as Raja were only drawing with FAR.

Only two goalless minutes needed to pass for Wydad to win their second consecutive Botola Pro championship, but the drama continued…

In the 89th minute Raja finally completed their comeback through Abdelilah Hafidi, who scored both goals for Raja on the night.

Hafidi’s goal proved to be decisive as Raja were victorious in the match and thus clinched the league title. The championship put an end to Raja fans’ seven-year wait for their team to win another Botola Pro trophy.

Raja will have the chance to add to their trophy cabinet when the CAF Champions League returns this weekend. They will take on Zamalek in the first leg of their semi-finals clash on Sunday. Wydad will take on Al Ahly on Saturday.
