Egyptian moneybags Pyramids will take on Guinean champions Horoya in the match to decide who will play in the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup final.
Horoya will only have 15 players available for the match! The rest of the squad shockingly tested positive, as reported yesterday.
Pyramids finished third in the Egyptian Premier League this season behind Al Ahly and Zamalek.
They have been nearly flawless on the continental stage this season though. They won 5 out of 6 games in the group stage.
In the quarter-finals they were drawn against Zambian side Zanaco. Goals from former Egypt internationals Aly Gabr and Abdallah El Said helped them demolish the Zambians 3-0 in Lusaka. They lost the return leg 1-0, advancing on aggregate 3-1.
In the semi-finals they were set to take on Horoya in March, until the pandemic forced the match to be delayed till today. Additionally, the semi-finals and final will be one-legged, meaning it’s winner takes all.
Horoya similarly got off to a great start in the group stage, earning 14 points from 6 games in a group that included the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
In the quarter-finals they defeated Enyimba of the Nigerian Professional Football League 2-1 on aggregate.
Pyramids’ top scorer in the competition has been 31-year-old Egyptian striker Mohamed Farouk with four goals.
Guinea’s Boniface Haba leads the way for Horoya.
The match will be played at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco. Egyptian teams have had incredible success at this venue in the past few days, With Ahly and Zamalek winning their Champions League semi-finals first leg matchups.
