African Football HQ Team of the Week #4

GK: Kennedy Mweene (Mamelodi Sundowns – Zambia)

Sundowns goalkeeper Mweene has to make the squad after finishing the season with two shutouts as his side won the Absa Premiership on the final day of the season.

LB: Paseka Mako (Orlando Pirates – South Africa)

26-year-old full-back Paseka Mako put in a solid shift in Orlando Pirates’ 1-0 win over Stellenbosch to close out the season.

CB: Romain Metanire (Minnesota United – Madagascar)

Metanire won two out of two games with Minnesota United in MLS this week, keeping a clean sheet in their 4-0 demolition of Real Salt Lake. He was red carded late in their 3-2 win over FC Dallas.

CB: Jonathan Mensah (Columbus Crew – Ghana)

Columbus Crew captain Jonathan Mensah has been crucial to the Crew’s incredibly strong defensive record since the restart. He kept his third straight clean sheet in their 3-0 win over Cincinatti.

RB: Olivier Mbaizo (Philadelphia Union – Cameroon)

Although a left-back, 23-year-old Cameroonian Olivier Mbaissidara Mbaizo has to make the team after he put in a virtuoso performance in the Union’s 3-0 thrashing of New York Red Bulls.

LM: Jean Kouassi (Wuhan – Ivory Coast)

25-year-old Ivorian left-winger Jean Kouassi scored Wuhan Zall in their 2-2 draw with Cedric Bakambu’s Beijing Guoan.

AM: Lebohang Maboe (Mamelodi Sundowns – South Africa)

Lebhhang Maboe ended his season on a high as he scored a hat trick and lifted the Absa Prem trophy in the same match!

RM: Junior Ajayi (Al Ahly – Nigeria)

Ajayi scored and assisted for Ahly as they defeated Haras El Hodood 2-0. 

FW: Bassem Morsy (El Entag El Harby – Egypt)

Former Zamalek striker Bassem Morsy scored twice as his side defeated Tanta 3-0.

FW: Walter Bwalya (El Gouna – DR Congo)

Congolese forward Walter Bwalya scored twice to give El Gouna a shock 2-1 win over Pyramids.

FW: Yohan Boli (Al Rayyan – Ivory Coast)

Ivorian striker Yohan Boli was on target for Al Rayyan in the Qatar Stars League this week as he socred twice. Fellow Africans Yacine Brahimi and Franck Kom scored and assisted, respectively.
